Managed cloud hosting

Cloud NVR hosting, without the per-camera tax.

We run a dedicated LightNVR instance for you in DigitalOcean — encrypted tunnel, isolated tenant, automated backups. Your cameras, your recordings, our pager. Pay per instance, never per camera.

In every tier, no upsells

The capabilities below are not Pro-only or "contact us" features. Every Starter plan gets the same security and isolation guarantees as a Pro plan.

  • Encrypted WireGuard tunnel

Cameras connect over a modern, audited VPN — no port forwarding, no exposed RTSP.

  • WebRTC live streaming

Sub-second latency in your browser. No plugins, no app installs, no Flash relics.

  • Isolated tenant instance

Your own Kubernetes namespace and dedicated volume — recordings are never co-mingled with another customer.

  • Automated backups

Configuration snapshots run on a schedule so a bad change is a one-click revert, not a midnight panic.

  • Status page access

Real-time visibility into the same uptime, incident, and maintenance feed our on-call team watches.

Coming from another NVR?

Three honest paragraphs on what changes when you switch. No upsell pressure — just what to expect, day one.

Moving from Verkada

The biggest change is the cameras themselves — Verkada bundles their own, and those won't keep working when your contract ends. You'll bring (or buy) standard RTSP / ONVIF cameras instead, which cost a fraction of bundled units and are not tied to any vendor. Pricing flips from per-camera-per-month to a flat per-instance subscription, and your footage lives in your own dedicated tenant rather than a shared multi-tenant pool.

Moving from Ivideon

Your existing RTSP cameras carry over directly — no hardware swap. The connection model changes from public RTSP / port-forwarding to an encrypted WireGuard tunnel, which usually means tearing down a forwarded port on your router and never thinking about it again. Pricing moves from per-camera tiers to a single per-instance plan, so adding cameras within your tier ceiling doesn't bump the invoice.

Moving from Blue Iris

Your cameras and your retention preferences carry over — same RTSP feeds, same broad capability surface. What you trade away is a Windows box you have to keep patched, powered, and physically present at the site; what you gain is off-site recording that survives a break-in or a power cut. The browser-based UI replaces the Blue Iris desktop client, so any device with a browser is now a viewing station.

Managed hosting questions, answered

Cancellation, access, billing, residency, export — the boring-but-important stuff a buyer needs in writing.

Where is my video stored? Can I pick a region?
LightNVR Cloud runs on DigitalOcean. Default region is US-East (NYC). EU customers can request an Amsterdam-region instance to keep recordings inside the EU; APAC customers can request a Bangalore-region instance. Region is set at provisioning time — email us if you need a non-default region and we will spin it up there from the start.
What happens if I cancel?
The recommended sequence: suspend your instance from the dashboard (freezes activity so nothing new is written while you finish exporting), download the recordings you want to keep from your storage volume, then terminate. Termination releases the cloud resources back to the pool so we can give them to other customers — at that point the encrypted volume and every recording on it are permanently deleted from our infrastructure, with no soft-delete and no silent retention on our end. Billing closes out at the moment of termination: a final invoice for the metered usage up to that point, then the clock stops. The open-source recorder you used in the cloud is the same one you can run yourself, so a self-host migration is a documented path if you want to keep going on your own hardware.
Who at LightNVR can see my recordings?
Nobody, by default. Your recordings live on an encrypted volume in a dedicated tenant namespace; LightNVR staff do not browse customer footage as part of normal operations. The only time we touch a tenant is when you explicitly file a support request that requires it (e.g., "my recordings are corrupted, please look") — and even then, access is logged and minimized to the failing component. We do not scan, analyze, train models on, or share your video with anyone.
How does billing actually work?
Fourteen-day free trial — provision a real instance and connect real cameras with no card on file. After the trial we reach out personally; if you want to continue, we set up a Stripe invoice on a monthly cycle. There is no automatic billing trigger and no surprise charge at trial end. Invoices come from a real human at LightNVR, not a billing robot.
Can I export my recordings?
Yes — both ad-hoc (download a clip from the dashboard) and bulk (we can produce an archive of your retention window on request). Recordings are standard MP4 / fragmented MP4, not a proprietary container, so they play in VLC, ffmpeg, and any modern video tool. Configuration is also exportable so you can rebuild the same setup on self-hosted LightNVR if you migrate off the cloud.
Do you offer a Data Processing Agreement (DPA)?
Yes. Email support@lightnvr.com with your DPA template (or ask for ours) and we will execute it. We work through GDPR, CCPA, and HIPAA-adjacent requirements case-by-case — we are small enough to actually read your contract instead of bouncing it to a portal.
